Chang-nel 2024
Medium: Sculpture
Materials: Hair Tie, Fabric
Size: 10*10cm
I was surprised to discover that I had accidentally purchased a counterfeit Chanel hair tie with a misspelled logo reading "Change." Instead of discarding it, I decided to transform it into a “real” Chanel hair tie by replacing the fabric. Using a piece of authentic Chanel wrapping—a complimentary tie from a genuine Chanel product— I swapped the fabric and placed the hair tie into an original Chanel box.
With this simple exchange, the hair tie suddenly became a “luxury item” valued at over $800. This work serves as a satirical commentary on identity and consumerism, highlighting the absurdity of perceived value in branded goods and the societal obsession with luxury labels.
