陈幸 Raffaella

Chen is a female artist currently studying and living in Toronto, Canada. She was born in northern China in the late 20th century and raised by her mother in Shanghai. Chen possesses a diverse cultural background and a wealth of experience by studying, living and working in multiple countries. She used to spend a year in Los Angeles, USA, where she engaged with dancers from all over the world, gaining an open mind and various approaches to view the world.

After completing her studies in Los Angeles, Chen ventured into the Asian idol industry, where she underwent rigorous training and faced the unimaginable expectations placed on women body and age. The challenging period made her acutely aware of the harsh judgments and struggles faced by women, both physically and mentally, not only in the idol industry, but also the entire society. She started to question how the society define female from her own experience, by her her direct works, she tries to reflect and discuss the current issue of how to treat female well and equally. After years of lives in dynamic cultures, she realized that the people's awareness of human rights and female rights stays in a huge gap-- the society is not evolving at the same time, and that is what she would like to work for-- synchronizing female rights and educating the public with her art in an easy and interesting way.

In 2021, Chen decided to return to University of Toronto to continue her academic study and her art journey. She weaves her personal experiences into her artwork, drawing from the reflections and responses to her pieces to deepen her exploration and expression in future projects.
